USPS Address Verification Service

Using a USPS address verification service allows you to verify if your address has been successfully entered into the official database. The service will also validate the address details if they are not already in the database.

Address validation services are available from USPS and third-party providers. Using address verification tools helps save time and prevents inconsistencies in postage. The service verifies an address against the USPS database to ensure it is authentic and provides metadata to help sort and analyze the information.

The USPS addresses database contains data on 160 million addresses. Using the USPS address lookup tool, you can confirm the primary number, secondary number, and primary ZIP+4 code. You can also get legislative information, daylight savings information, time zone, and area code.

The USPS Address Validator provides metadata and allows you to validate an address with a click of the "" icon. The tool is free. It also provides a web interface that allows you to enter addresses one at a time. It offers thumbs up/thumbs down for validation.

Third-party companies also provide APIs to verify addresses. These services typically allow users to process address lists in CSV or Excel format. They can also provide CASS certification. They also offer free address validation tools.

While there are address verification services available from USPS and other third-party providers, they have limitations. The USPS offers tools that are free, but they have limitations.

There is not a lot of documentation for USPS address validation APIs. The APIs do not have enough support to handle a large amount of addresses at once.
